Goethe "Reineke Fox",

St. Petersburg, 1864

This book was one of the projects of my BA thesis and the first color book I restored. It was a pleasure to work with it, because the quality of the paper was good and it did not have serious damages. I increased the PH of paper and rebinded the book. In many of these projects you will see the conservation book bind. We used the conservation book bind for the books which came from the library collections which are in use by the readers. Those books which are lended to the people are required to have an additional conservation book bind, which, of couse, is removable.

Now it is important to understand that the presented projects were restored in a particular way because they were to be used by the readers of the library and, thus, the conservation binds had to be added, the PH level of the paper had to be raised. The practice targeted at multiple users is different from the conservation practice applied to the objects which go on the display or into the storage.

The book was in an overall good condition. Only the cover had losses of paper on the corners and in the spine.  The cover paper was removed to be strengthened with light conservation paper and then mounted onto the new cover cardboard. The book was mounted into a conservational bind. â€‹
