"Life Scenes"

Moscow, 1857

The work on this album was my second experience of working with printed color images, however, the paper was cellulose based, hence, it was very fragile and inflexible. The pieces of paper were crumbling making the work of stregthening the paper sheets and filling up the paper losses more difficult. Since this book also came from the operational library collection, it had to be binded with an additional conservation book bind,

Now it is important to understand that the presented projects were restored because they were to be used by the readers of the library and thus the conservation binds had to be added, the PH level of the paper had to be raised. The practice targeted at the multiple users is different from the conservation practice for display.

The publisher of this book was Morozov A.V. (1857 – 1934). Morozov had a collection of more than 10 000 pieces, which he decided to donate to the city but the October Revolution in 1917 prevented his plans. There was a reorganization of saved collections in the late 20th century in Moscow. And Morozov's collection was donated to the Russian National Library, the Tretjakov Gallery, the Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow and other museums. The book cover was made of light cardboard with chromolithographs on both sides. The cover was dirty and had losses of paper in the spine. The book consisted of ten pages, six out of which were lithographs. The first and the last sheets fell out of the book because of the losses of the paper in the spine. ï»¿
